Toolbox has always been buggy and always will be. It's always been the case with Toolbox that when you knock one problem down two more pop up. Our current VAR has given up trying to figure it out. We use PDM to generate BOMs and what should be a seemless process would result in hours of work to fix fastener properties. We'd think it was fixed then we'd pull up a BOM and some large percentage of fasteners would revert back to the Solidworks standard values for these fields. The one thing I was never able to fix was getting the manufacturer, part number, and description to stay what we wanted. We still deal with broken mates and missing configurations but my biggest issues are things that effect the BOM. Some of them have been fixed over the years but some have not. I'd hate to start over from where I am now, but I know I can create these fasteners pretty damn fast from a McMaster model and design table - but I like how I can adding them from toolbox works.

Its not too late for me to steer the ship and change what we do. How to set SolidWorks Toolbox Altug Tuncel. I like it so far, but if you use a better method of just design libraries let me know what you do. Lastly, I know there's a lot of Toolbox hate out there to go around. Is there a guide for how to link standard properties to files or anything like that?

So far I've been copying existing files and working from those, but I don't see a file for ISO 7380 flanged button heads. These control how the toolbox functions internally along with what data will be displayed to the user while they utilize the toolbox inside of solidworks. I suspect this data may be in ToolboxFiles.index but I haven't found a way to open that file yet.Īlso- the next challenge I'm going to have is I think I need to make a new fastener. The toolbox has a variety of settings that require configuration for the best utilization of the toolbox program. Is there any type of a bulk edit mode or import like there is when updating the custom property data? I tried digging through the swbrowser.sldedb file but I don't see the new files I'm making in there, and the modified date appears to be when I installed Solidworks. This is tedious with the number of lengths I need to add. The only way I can find to do this is by clicking the + in Toolbox Settings and filling out the popup. I've run into some hardware - mainly button head cap screws and flat head cap screws, where I need to add quite a few sizes (lengths actually) to what exists in solidworks. To make things easier to find- I've been setting up our own "Preferred" folder that is not in any of the existing standards and customizing from there. We purchase our hardware generally through McMaster, so I'm trying to mimic mostly what they have (for the hardware I need). I'm trying to get toolbox setup for my company a little better.
